EL Salvador – Santa Gertrudis
Roaster notes
Juan José Arévalo Cortez has owned Las Margaritas farm in Santa Gertrudis for 30 years. After losing 70% of his trees to roya disease in 2012, he rebuilt with a forest-like approach—coffee grows under multiple strata of shade including bananas, citrus, mahogany, cedar, pine, bamboo and cacao trees that shelter migratory birds. A river runs through the farm, creating an exceptional microclimate where sustainable practices continue despite no longer holding Rain Forest certification due to cost.
