Finca Los Lagos

Roaster notes

This is the first year we have bought coffee from Henry Roja’s farm, Finca Los Lagos. We have bought this coffee with the help of our friends at the Almacafé division of the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC) who help facilitate our coffee buying in Colombia. For more information about this process, please see our January and February newsletters. Henry has a very small farm, with just over 4000 coffee trees planted. Historically a farm of this size would sell coffee through the larger cooperative system, where the coffee would be blended into a large lot and sold with only the regional name attached. The superb flavour profile would be lost, and Henry’s achievement wouldn’t be recognised. Almacafé help smaller farms like Los Lagos reach buyers who are willing to pay the premium for a single estate coffee of this quality. They have dedicated warehousing and protocols to work with smaller lots of coffee and maintain traceability during the dry-milling and export process.
